Sevenoaks Town Juniors FC launched their Football in the Community Scheme in 2009 and ever since this scheme has grown rapidly and it continues to go from strength to strength. Due to the size of our Football in the Community Scheme the club is now effectively split into two sections: our 32 teams and our Football in the Community Scheme.
Our Football in the Community Scheme essentially aims to increase participation in football. However the scheme is split into a number of different initiatives which target increasing participation in different groups of young people. Therefore the aims of our Football in the Community Scheme are:
1) Increase participation in football
2)Strengthen the links between the club and local schools
3)Increase the number of girls playing football
4)Provide opportunities to children with disabilities to play football
5) Educate children, through the scheme, about the benefits of regular exericse and a healthy diet
By dividing our Football in the Community Scheme into different initiatives we are able to target these aims specifically. The individual initiatives are:
Skills School
This is open to any boy or girl, but particularly between the ages of four to eleven, and runs every week from April to September on a Saturday at Greatness Park. Skills School runs on a 'pay as you play' basis with no obligation to commit to a team although if you are interested in joining a team this is the best way to do just that. FA 3 Lions School-Club Link
The FA 3 Lions School-Club Link is an initiative run in partnership with the Kent FA that aims to establish new links and strengthen current links with local schools. The initiative aims to educate boys and girls as to the benefits of regular exercise, in this case football, and a healthy diet. The initiative places emphasis on fun and through this we encourage children to keep playing football either in a team or elsewhere such as at our Skills School. Disability Football Coaching
In 2010 we started to focus on providing disabled children with the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game in a safe and fun environment. We ran our first specialist disabiiity course at Valence School and soon after ran another specialist disability course at the Royal London Society for the Blind Dorton House School. Shortly afterwards we became the Kent FA's hub club for blind and visually impaired football with the aim of improving football coaching for blind and visually impaired children. Girls Football
In 2009 we formed our first ever girls team. The girls went on to win the League and Cup Double in their first full season. This season the girls are entering the Kent Ladies and Girls League. We are hoping to increase the number of girls teams we have over the coming years.
Our Football in the Community Scheme aims to...
1) Increase participation in football
2)Strengthen the links between the club and local schools
3)Increase the number of girls playing football
4)Provide opportunities to children with disabilities to play football
5) Educate children, through the scheme, about the benefits of regular exericse and a healthy diet
